What should a married woman do who suffers from recurring problems in her home and the homes of her husband's brothers, where work has to be redone, furniture quickly deteriorates, and installations are incorrect? Is this envy (hasad), and what should be done, considering that she and her husband are employed and own a small shop? And is the solution to sacrifice an animal or to recite Quran over water and sprinkle it around the house?
The solution to problems is to return to Allah and to distance oneself from His disobedience. Indeed, faith and righteous deeds bring a good life, while turning away from the remembrance of Allah causes a constricted life. Problems afflict a person due to their sins. The cure is through supplication (du'a), remembrances (adhkar), and morning and evening litanies (awrad).
If what has afflicted you is envy (hasad) or magic (sihr), then recite Al-Fatiha, Ayat Al-Kursy, the last two verses of Surat Al-Baqarah, Al-Ikhlas, and Al-Mu'awwidhatayn. One can also seek ruqyah shariyyah (Islamic exorcism) with the conviction that these are beneficial means, by the permission of Allah.
Slaughtering for the house, if intended to seek proximity to the jinn, is major shirk (polytheism). However, if it is a charity of gratitude to Allah, then there is no harm in it. Nevertheless, adhering only to what is mentioned in the Sunnah is preferable.
