Is it valid to vow to slaughter something for God upon moving to a new house?

Initiating a vow is disliked. Slaughtering an animal is sunnah as a form of gratitude to Allah for the blessing of moving into a new home. However, if you have vowed to slaughter, then you must fulfill it. Slaughtering upon moving into a new home is permissible if it is out of gratitude to Allah or to honor those who congratulate you. But if it is done to ward off the evil eye or jinn, then it is forbidden. Indeed, slaughtering for jinn is a major shirk that expels one from the fold of Islam.
