What is the ruling on a woman wearing trousers?

The attire of a Muslim woman is required to be modest, flowing, and not tight. If modesty is achieved and there is no ostentation or imitation, she may wear whatever she wishes. There is no objection to wearing trousers if they are covered by an abaya or something that conceals the body's features, or if worn with her husband inside the home. The prohibition is not inherent to trousers themselves, but rather because they are not modest when worn outdoors.
