What is the ruling on consuming foods that contain red dyes extracted from a type of beetle that feeds on red berries?

Scholars have differed regarding the consumption of insects. Khalil al-Maliki permitted the eating of snakes if their venom was neutralized and they were ritually slaughtered (dhukkiyat), as well as creeping insects such as scorpions, beetles, cockroaches (banat wardan), locusts, ants, worms, and weevils. He considered that locusts require a slaughtering that causes their death. Therefore, there is no harm in consuming food that contains parts of these insects, provided they have been slaughtered in a way that causes their death.
