What is the ruling on eating products that contain carmine coloring, which is made from ground up beetles, and is it obligatory to warn people about it, even if it might tarnish a company's reputation?

Scholars differ on the ruling concerning eating insects. The Malikis permit eating them, provided they are ritually slaughtered (tadhkiyah), while the majority of scholars deem eating them unlawful.

Accordingly, the colored substance made from beetles might be considered permissible based on the Maliki view, or if it has transformed from its original state into another substance.

The Egyptian Dar al-Ifta has issued a fatwa permitting some types of food colorings based on these two considerations, unless their harm is proven.

As for warning against these products, it is not permissible if the presence of the substance is doubtful. If its presence is confirmed, then the clarification should be made with moderation.
