How is the intention for giving charity on behalf of a sick person made, and to whom is this charity credited?

Charity on behalf of another, whether living or deceased, is acceptable provided the donor intends to dedicate the reward to that specific person. The reward reaches the person on whose behalf the charity was given. As for the donor, some scholars hold that Allah grants them a reward equivalent to that of the one on whose behalf they donated, while others believe they are rewarded for their act of benevolence.
