A wife must obey her husband unless he commands her to commit a sin, due to the importance of this for entering Paradise and attaining Allah's pleasure, as stated in the Hadith: "If a woman prays her five [daily prayers], fasts her month [Ramadan], guards her chastity, and obeys her husband, she will enter Paradise through any of its gates she wishes." Therefore, it is not permissible to disobey the husband in his refusal of his wife working, and what you mentioned is not a justification for it.
