What is the ruling on a person saying, "The Angel of Death is sitting in our city," when there are many deaths, and is the one who says it considered a disbeliever?

Mocking the Angel of Death or the angels is an act of disbelief (kufr), based on Allah's saying: ﴿Say: "Was it at Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?" Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after your belief.﴾ However, the statement "The Angel of Death is sitting in our city" might not be mockery but rather an indication of widespread death, even if it is a flawed statement, as the Angel of Death does not "sit" in a city; rather, he is a commissioned being entrusted with seizing souls. The speaker must repent. If he intended mockery, he must renew his faith. If he did not intend mockery, he must repent for this false statement, for a person might utter a word that he deems harmless, yet it casts him into the Hellfire.
