Is the condition that a young man is experiencing—of extreme shyness, fear, and a rapid heartbeat when speaking with girls—which began in the ninth grade and is affecting his social life and engagement, possibly due to the evil eye or magic, and what should he do if that is the case?

The questioner is advised to persevere in good deeds, recite the Quran, and the traditional supplications for protection. A man should avoid extensive conversation with foreign women unless necessary, as it is a potential source of temptation. Scholars have permitted this when there is no fear of temptation. Praiseworthy shyness prevents one from indecency and negligence, while blameworthy shyness hinders one from doing good, seeking knowledge, and speaking the truth. It is permissible for a man to look at a woman he intends to marry, and refraining from this is considered blameworthy shyness. There is no need for him to speak with her directly; he can delegate this to his family. If the questioner suspects he is afflicted by magic, there is no harm in performing ruqyah (Islamic exorcism), while being cautious not to accuse relatives without clear evidence.
