Is it permissible for a man to marry his paternal great-aunt's daughter?
It is permissible to marry the daughter of a paternal uncle, a paternal aunt, a maternal uncle, or a maternal aunt, as long as there is no impediment from suckling. This includes the daughter of one's father's paternal uncle. The evidence for permissibility is the saying of Allah the Almighty: "{and the daughters of your paternal uncles and the daughters of your paternal aunts and the daughters of your maternal uncles and the daughters of your maternal aunts}." This is a moderate legislation that differs from the exaggeration of Christians in prohibiting marriage to relatives and the laxity of Jews in permitting marriage to a sister's daughter.
