What is the ruling on one who has ample wealth but did not slaughter an 'Aqiqah for his children?

The 'Aqiqah (definition) is a confirmed Sunnah (definition) according to the majority of scholars, and based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "A child is in pledge for his 'Aqiqah; sacrifice is made for him on the seventh day, he is named, and his head is shaved." There is disagreement regarding the meaning of "in pledge" (murtaḥan). Some say: If no 'Aqiqah is performed for him and he dies as a child, he will not intercede for his parents. Others say: The 'Aqiqah is obligatory for him. Others say: He is pledged by the harm of his hair. And some say: It is a reason for his release from Satan. It is befitting for one who has the means to perform the 'Aqiqah for his children and to make up for what he missed by performing it for those among them who have not reached puberty. As for one who has reached puberty, he should perform the 'Aqiqah for himself.
