What is the error in my understanding of the meaning of your fatwa No. 46678, which states the obligation of combining love, fear, and hope in the worship of Allah, and that worship is not solely justified by seeking Paradise or fearing Hell, and that love and hope are one and the same, and that the servant thanks his Lord for Himself with the aim of deliverance from Hell, entering Paradise, and beholding the countenance of Allah the Almighty?

The mistake is equating love with hope. Love, hope, and fear are independent acts of worship that a Muslim must combine. Furthermore, limiting worship to fear and greed is a mistake, for love is one of the greatest acts of worship. The answer has restricted worship to fear and greed, whereas the correct view is that love is one of the greatest acts of worship. Allah Almighty should be worshipped for His right and as gratitude for His blessings, along with hoping for Paradise, because entering it is by the grace and mercy of Allah, not by deeds. For Allah is not obligated by anything, and the universe is His dominion; He does what He wills. His promise is for believers to enter Paradise by His mercy, and for disbelievers to enter Hell by His justice. Therefore, a person yearns for Allah's mercy and Paradise, and fears His punishment and wrath.
