Is it obligatory for an obstetrician-gynecologist to advise female patients to go to another female doctor, or is it permissible for him to remain silent?

If a qualified Muslim female doctor is available, she must examine the patient. Otherwise, a trustworthy non-Muslim female doctor should, then a Muslim male doctor, and then a non-Muslim male doctor. The examination must be limited to the extent of the need, and the doctor should avert his gaze as much as possible. The treatment should take place in the presence of a mahram, a husband, or a trustworthy woman. Health authorities recommend encouraging women to specialize in medicine, especially in gynecology and obstetrics. If there are enough specialized female doctors, it is not permissible for a male doctor to examine women. If there are not enough female doctors, a male doctor may examine women while adhering to the Islamic legal guidelines.
