Is performing the Tarawih prayer at home and foregoing Umrah in Ramadan, out of fear of the swine flu pandemic, considered a blemish upon one's faith, taking into account the hadith "no contagion and no ill omen" and the husband's chest sensitivity?

Attending Tarawih prayers in the mosque, especially in the Two Holy Mosques, carries immense reward. As for the obligatory prayers, such as Friday and congregational prayers, attendance is a duty, and it is not permissible to miss them except with a valid excuse. If there is a strong presumption of harm, then it is permissible to miss Friday, congregational, and Tarawih prayers. The same applies to Umrah (definition), and the estimation of this is left to specialists like doctors. The hadith (definition) "There is no contagion and no evil omen" negates the independent effect of contagion and evil omen, for Allah is the One who causes illness and grants healing. However, other hadiths, such as "Let not a sick person come upon a healthy one" and "Flee from the leper," indicate that diseases are causes through which Allah has accustomed things to happen, and taking precautions is commanded by the Sharia (definition) and does not undermine one's belief, while abandoning precautions is a flaw in the Sharia.
