Was Yusuf (عليه السلام) commissioned to invite his people to worship Allah, or were his people monotheists, and when and where did revelation descend upon him with prophethood, and did the events he experienced occur before or after his prophethood?

Yusuf (Joseph), peace be upon him, was a prophet and a messenger. Allah sent him to the people of Egypt to invite them to monotheism, as the majority of scholars believe. They cite Quranic verses as evidence, such as the statement of the believer from the family of Pharaoh: "And Joseph had already come to you before with clear proofs, but you remained in doubt concerning that which he brought to you. Until, when he perished, you said, 'Never will Allah send after him a messenger.'" And Joseph, peace be upon him, invited the people of the prison to monotheize Allah and abandon polytheism. Others disagreed, saying: Joseph was not a messenger to the people of Egypt, but rather to his own family, and his دعوتهم to the Egyptians was as much as he was able to do.
