Is the husband religiously obligated to bear additional expenses for his wife and to save her entire salary, while his provision for ordinary household expenses is sufficient? And is his failure to bear these expenses considered stinginess?
Allah has made it obligatory for the husband to spend on his wife in a reasonable manner, providing food, housing, service, and medicine, even if she is wealthy, based on the Almighty’s saying: "Lodge them where you lodge, according to your means" and "Let a man of wealth spend from his wealth." And based on the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying to Hind: "Take what is sufficient for you and your child in a reasonable manner." As for anything beyond that, the husband is not obliged unless the wife stipulates it in the contract and he accepts it. In that case, he must fulfill it, as long as it does not contradict the Sharia, based on his (peace be upon him) saying: "The conditions most worthy of fulfillment are those by which you make intimacy lawful" and "Muslims are bound by their conditions, except for a condition that forbids what is lawful or permits what is unlawful." If you adhere to what has been mentioned and do not violate the Sharia, then you are not considered stingy. The wife’s money is her right, and she is not obligated to spend any of it on household expenses unless she wishes to.
