What is the Shar'i ruling on a husband growing his beard in a way that displeases his wife, and is a wife entitled to demand that her husband maintain a beautiful appearance?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded the letting of beards grow, and a command implies obligation. Al-Bukhari and Muslim reported from Ibn 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Be different from the polytheists; trim the moustaches and let the beards grow." Therefore, the husband's letting his beard grow and not trimming it is the correct approach, in accordance with what the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was upon. The wife's aversion to him because of this is a grave error, as it is an aversion to a religious obligation and a prophetic Sunnah. Beards are an adornment for men, and beauty lies in adhering to the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. There is no contradiction between letting the beard grow and adorning oneself for one's wife in ways that do not involve a religious transgression.
