What is the proper way to deal with a wife who follows her family’s guidance in matters concerning her home, children, and husband, which has led to family problems and her going to her family’s home with the children? And does a wife’s statement to her husband, "You are not my man," constitute a prohibition between them?
The wife must treat her husband with kindness and obey him in matters that do not involve disobedience (to Allah). Her obedience to him takes precedence over her obedience to her parents. It is not permissible for her to leave his house without his permission.
If the wife's disobedience (nushuz) is proven by her leaving without her husband's permission and her disobedience to him, then her right to maintenance (nafaqa) is forfeited, and the husband has the right to discipline her.
If she does not cease her disobedience after being advised and disciplined, then divorce is preferable.
The wife does not have the right to say, "You are not my husband," and this statement does not result in divorce, for divorce is in the hand of the husband.
The wife is not to involve anyone in the privacy of her marital life. The wife must serve her husband according to common custom and take care of his house and children.
