Will people be tested on the Day of Resurrection, knowing that it is a Day of Reckoning, not tribulation, and is entering Hellfire on the Day of Resurrection a test that addresses the intellect?

Scholars differed on the fate of people of the fatrah (those who lived in a period without a prophet) and the children of polytheists, presenting several opinions. The most preponderant among them is that they will be tested on the Day of Resurrection. This opinion is supported by authentic and sound Prophetic hadiths, which corroborate what Abu al-Hasan al-Ash'ari mentioned about the Ahl al-Sunnah. Some scholars objected to this opinion, stating that the Hereafter is a realm of recompense, not of obligation (taklif). However, their objection was refuted by the existence of tests in the grave and on the plains of Resurrection, and that taklif does not cease until one enters Paradise or Hellfire. Imam Ibn Kathir also refuted the objection by stating that the command to enter Hellfire is no more difficult than crossing the Sirat (bridge over Hell), or drinking the water of the Dajjal which appears as fire, or the command to the Children of Israel to kill themselves. Ibn al-Qayyim holds that this opinion conforms to the Qur'an and the rules of Islamic law, that it has been authentically reported from the Companions, and that the command to enter Hellfire is not a punishment but a test to demonstrate obedience, and had they obeyed, it would not have harmed them.
