What are the Sharia texts regarding the purification of the body?
If the intention is to mention the legal texts that encourage the purification of the body from impurities that affect it, then among them are: The Almighty's saying: ﴿And your garments purify﴾ [Al-Muddaththir: 4] The Almighty's saying: ﴿Indeed, Allah loves those who repent and loves those who purify themselves﴾ [Al-Baqarah: 222] The Almighty's saying: ﴿In it are men who love to purify themselves; and Allah loves those who purify themselves﴾ [At-Tawbah: 108] And likewise, many texts from the Sunnah indicating istinja' and istijmar (cleansing after defecation/urination) and the method of ghusl from janabah (major ritual impurity), and so on.
And if the intention is to mention the texts indicating that the human body is originally pure, then the body of a living human being is pure, whether he is a Muslim or a disbeliever; because of the Almighty's saying: ﴿And We have certainly honored the children of Adam﴾ [Al-Isra': 70]. Some of the Zahiri scholars went to the opinion of the impurity of the living body of a disbeliever, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: «Indeed, a believer does not become impure.» The majority of scholars responded to the hadith by explaining that what is meant is that the believer is pure in his limbs due to his habit of avoiding impurity, unlike the polytheist. As for the verse: ﴿Indeed, the polytheists are unclean (najas)﴾ [At-Tawbah: 28], they responded by saying that what is meant is that they are impure in belief and in their detestable nature. They differed regarding the deceased body of a disbeliever; some said it is pure, and some said it is impure.
