How can one respond convincingly to those who object to the stoning of adulterers?

The affirmation of and submission to rulings must stem from faith. For belief in Allah necessitates obeying Him and submitting to all legislation that emanates from Him. The texts of the Holy Quran have affirmed this, as Allah the Almighty says: ﴿O YOU WHO HAVE BELIEVED, FEAR ALLAH AND GIVE UP WHAT REMAINS [due to you] OF INTEREST, IF YOU SHOULD BE BELIEVERS﴾ [Al-Baqarah:278], and His saying: ﴿O YOU WHO HAVE BELIEVED, INDEED, INTOXICANTS, GAMBLING, [SACRIFICING TO] STONE ALTARS FOR IDOLS AND DIVINING ARROWS ARE BUT DEFILEMENT FROM THE WORK OF SATAN, SO AVOID IT THAT YOU MAY SUCCEIVE﴾ [Al-Ma'idah:90], and His saying: ﴿O YOU WHO HAVE BELIEVED, BOW AND PROSTRATE AND WORSHIP YOUR LORD AND DO GOOD THAT YOU MAY SUCCEED﴾ [Al-Hajj:77]. Among these legislations is the ruling of stoning (rajm), which has been affirmed by authentic and explicit texts in Islamic Sharia. Furthermore, it was not exclusive to this Sharia; rather, it was present in the laws of previous prophets, such as the law of Moses, peace be upon him. It is mentioned in Al-Bukhari, on the authority of Abdullah ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with both of them, that the Jews affirmed the existence of stoning in the Torah.
