Is it obligatory for a preparatory year student who has never performed Hajj before to perform Hajj this year, given the limited time due to his potential absence on the first days of school?
Hajj is obligatory immediately for whoever is able to find a way to it; due to the Almighty's saying: "And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka'bah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, those who can afford the expenses (for one's conveyance and provision, or can afford to reach there)", and due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Hasten to Hajj - meaning the obligatory one - for indeed none of you knows what may befall him." It was reported from Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that whoever is able to perform Hajj and does not, let him die a Jew or a Christian. Therefore, it is advised to hasten to Hajj even if it leads to missing some days of study.
