What are the rulings regarding the recitation and chanting of the Quran for the blind, the deaf, and the mute? Is the reward for their recitation or listening to the Quran the same as the reward for an ordinary person's recitation? And is ritual purity (wudu') obligatory for the blind person when listening to the Quran?

Reading the Qur'an earns reward regardless of whether the reader is blind or deaf, due to the generality of the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah will have a good deed for it." A blind person earns great reward when completing the Qur'an or a part of it by listening, but this reward does not reach the reward of the reciter. Ablution is not required for one who listens to the Qur'an. As for the mute person who can hear but not speak, he earns the reward of the listener, not the reciter.
