What is the distance one may pass in front of a worshipper without sin when exiting the mosque and there are worshippers behind the first row?

There is no disagreement among scholars regarding the prohibition of passing in front of a worshipper, between him and his sutrah (an object placed in front of a worshipper to delineate his prayer area), or close to him if he does not have a sutrah. This is based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "If the one who passes in front of a worshipper knew what was upon him, it would be better for him to stand for forty than to pass in front of him." The apparent meaning of the hadith prohibits passing absolutely, even if one cannot find another path; rather, one should stand until the worshipper finishes his prayer. Therefore, it is obligatory to avoid passing in front of worshippers as much as possible.
