Does the Hadith, "The sutra of the Imam is the sutra of those praying behind him," mean that it is permissible to step over the rows of worshippers?

It is permissible for a person to pass between the rows of congregational prayers and it does not cause any harm, even if the Imam has not prayed facing a sutrah (an object placed in front of a praying person to mark the limits of their prayer area). This passing does not have any effect unless it is directly in front of the Imam without a sutrah, or if the person passes between the Imam and his sutrah. The congregants are not required to take a sutrah, as the Imam's sutrah suffices for them. The proof for the permissibility of a person passing in front of some of the rows is the hadith of Ibn Abbas, agreed upon [by Al-Bukhari and Muslim], where he passed in front of some of the rows while the Prophet was praying in Mina, and no one objected to him.
