Is the Trumpet Blast of Terror the first sign of the Day of Resurrection, which will be on a Friday, and will it only afflict the wicked among creation, or are there some among the living who will be safe from its terror?

The Hour will be established upon the worst of people, as the souls of the believers will be taken by a pleasant breeze before its advent. This is indicated by the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "The Hour will not be established until 'Allah, Allah' is no longer said on earth," and his saying in the Hadith of the Dajjal: "Allah will send a cold wind from the direction of Sham, and no one will remain on the face of the earth who has an atom's weight of goodness or faith in his heart but that it will take him... Then the worst of people will remain... Then the Trumpet will be blown."

As for the believers' safety from the Great Terror mentioned in the Qur'an: ﴿The Great Terror will not grieve them﴾, what is meant by it is the terror of the second blowing for resurrection, or the horrors of the Reckoning and the Day of Judgment, not the terror of the blowing of annihilation that precedes the establishment of the Hour. This is the view of the majority of commentators.
