Is it permissible to trim or alter the beard in a passport photo using Photoshop at the insistence of one's father? Is this considered altering creation? What is the ruling on this if there is an extreme necessity?
"Photographic imaging of living beings is a matter of dispute. The ruling adopted by this website is the prohibition of full images of living beings, except in cases of necessity. Those who permit this type of photography stipulate that there should be no intervention in the image by way of alteration or modification, because photographic imaging is merely the capturing of a shadow and the transmission of an exact replica. Sheikh Ibn 'Uthaymeen favored the permissibility of taking a photographic image with a camera without any modification, because the photographer is not creating or imitating Allah's creation. There is no harm in modifying an image if it is incomplete (e.g., a half-image), based on the opinion of the majority of jurists that an image from which a part essential for life is cut off is not prohibited."
