Is it obligatory to bandage (the penis) while sleeping for one who suffers from prostatic congestion and from whom ablution water leaks, and what is the ruling concerning his leading the prayer before he knew the ruling?
If a person confirms that water used for ' (washing after defecation/urination) has exited the male organ, he must take precautions to prevent the impurity from spreading to his clothes. The Malikis hold that safeguarding is not obligatory if it is harmful or difficult, and if it is merely an illusion or whisper (waswasah), it should be disregarded.
If the matter reaches the stage of سلس ( سلس البول - urinary incontinence) such that there is not enough time to perform prayer with proper purity, then one should perform ablution (wudu') after the prayer time has begun and pray the obligatory (fard) prayer and as many supererogatory (nawafil) prayers as he wishes.
The validity of leading the prayer (imamah) in this situation is a matter of disagreement, and what is issued as a by us is its validity with dislike (karahah). Thus, his prayer with the congregation is valid, Allah willing. However, if he finds sufficient time to perform the prayer with proper purity, then he must wait.
