Is a husband permitted to discipline his wife by striking her if she requests it of him, even if her fault was not an act of rebellion (nushuz)?

Islamic law prohibits hitting one's wife except within very narrow limits and with specific controls. A husband is not permitted to hit his wife, even if she consents, for her body does not belong to her, nor is she allowed to do anything that harms herself. This is based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm," and because a person does not own themselves; rather, they belong to Allah Almighty. Spouses must treat each other with kindness, and each must know and fulfill the rights of the other.
