Who is Yusuf (peace be upon him), and where did he live?

Summary of the story of Yusuf (Joseph), peace be upon him, as narrated in the Holy Quran:

Yusuf, son of Yaqub (Jacob), son of Ishaq (Isaac), son of Ibrahim (Abraham), peace be upon them all, grew up beloved by his father, which aroused the envy of his brothers. After he saw a dream in which the planets, the sun, and the moon prostrated to him, his father advised him not to relate it to his brothers. However, their envy led them to throw him into a well, and they falsely told their father that a wolf had eaten him. A caravan picked him up and he was sold in Egypt to its 'Aziz (dignitary), who instructed his wife to treat him kindly.

When Yusuf reached maturity, the 'Aziz's wife sought to seduce him, but he resisted. She then attempted to frame him, but his innocence was proven. Subsequently, the women conspired against him, and some advised them to submit to the 'Aziz's wife, so he was imprisoned.

In prison, Yusuf interpreted the dreams of two young men, and he advised one of them to mention him to the king. After years, the king requested an interpretation of his dream about seven fat cows and seven lean ones, and seven green ears of corn and seven dry ones. The young man then remembered Yusuf, and the king summoned him. After the 'Aziz's wife and the women cleared his name, Yusuf was appointed over the treasuries of Egypt and became its trusted overseer.

His brothers came to Egypt seeking food. Yusuf recognized them, but they did not recognize him. He asked them to bring their full brother. When they returned to him with their brother, Yusuf detained him by placing the king's drinking cup in his luggage.

After his brothers returned to their father and informed him of what had happened, Yaqub grieved deeply. Then he sent his sons to search for Yusuf and his brother, and they found him. Yusuf revealed himself to his brothers and forgave them. He then asked them to bring his shirt to restore his father's eyesight, which was restored as soon as the shirt was cast over his face.

Yaqub's family migrated to Egypt, and Yusuf raised his parents to the throne, and they prostrated to him, thus fulfilling his first dream. Yusuf, peace be upon him, concluded his life by supplicating to Allah to let him die as a Muslim and to join him with the righteous.
