Who was the first to undertake the winter and summer journeys in the Arabian Peninsula before Islam, and what is a historical overview of him?

The winter and summer journeys were two trade expeditions undertaken by the Quraysh. One was in winter to Abyssinia and then Yemen, and the other was in summer to Syria. These two journeys were initiated by Hashim ibn Abd Manaf when he witnessed the severe poverty that afflicted the Quraysh and the phenomenon of "al-i'tifar" (death by starvation).
