Is it permissible to gather employees to complete a recitation of the the Qur’an (Khatm al-Qur’an) when opening a company, and is this act considered a bid‘ah (innovation), and what is prescribed to be done when opening a shop, company, or house?

Gathering for a Qur'anic recitation (khatmah) and dedicating it specifically to the inauguration of a new home or a business project has no evidence from the Qur'an or Sunnah (definition), nor did the Salaf (pious predecessors) practice it. Had it been good, they would have preceded us to it. No specific act is known to be legislated for the inauguration of such places, except for the recitation of Surat Al-Baqarah in the home to expel Satan, not for the purpose of inauguration. There is no harm in giving charity, reciting the Qur'an, or performing any other good deed as an act of gratitude to Allah and seeking blessings, without believing that this is a Sunnah or specifically prescribed. A Muslim must show gratitude to Allah for His blessings by utilizing them in obedience to Him, in fulfillment of His (the Almighty's) saying: "And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.'"
