What is the ruling on a man who broke his fast in Ramadan based on a fatwa of jihad, then had sexual intercourse with his wife while she was fasting during the daytime in Ramadan after his return from the front, and what is the ruling on his wife in both cases?

If a traveler or a sick person breaks their fast, or if a menstruating woman becomes pure during the day, they are not obligated to abstain from food and drink for the rest of the day, according to the majority of scholars. It is not permissible for any of them who have broken their fast to have intercourse with their fasting wife. If he does so, being aware and remembering, he is sinful. As for the wife, if she has an excuse (coerced, forgetful, ignorant), her fast is valid and she is not required to make up the day or offer expiation. However, if she chose to do so, being aware and remembering, she has sinned and her fast is nullified, and expiation becomes obligatory upon her according to the majority of jurists, due to her equality with the man regarding the rulings of intercourse during Ramadan (definition) and the expiation resulting from it.
