Does a Pilgrimage Righteously Performed (Hajj Mabrur) atone for major sins?

The accepted Hajj atones for sins. Whoever performs Hajj and neither commits Rafath (obscene acts or speech) nor Fusuq (disobedience to Allah) returns as pure as the day his mother bore him. And the accepted Hajj has no reward other than Paradise. The majority of scholars are of the opinion that good deeds only expiate minor sins, and that major sins require repentance. They cite the Hadith (definition): "The five daily prayers, and Friday prayer to Friday prayer, and Ramadan (definition) to Ramadan, are expiations for what is between them, provided that major sins are avoided." Whereas Ibn al-Mundhir and others hold that the accepted Hajj expiates all sins.
