The answer

The wiping over a splint (jabirah) becomes invalid if it falls off or is removed, whether its falling off is due to the wound healing or for any other reason. If the splint falls off not due to healing, then, according to the Hanbalis and in one opinion among the Shafi'is, one must restart the ablution (wudu') or complete the ritual bath (ghusl). However, according to the Malikis, and this is the more correct view among the Shafi'is, only the wiping is invalidated, and the splint is reapplied.
