Is it considered a lie to claim knowledge of Tajweed to a suitor who wishes to learn it after marriage, and is it permissible to tell him the truth, fearing that he might leave you?

Lying is forbidden in Islamic law and is one of the major sins, while truthfulness is salvation. If your husband will abandon you or become angry if he learns that you do not know the rules of Tajweed (definition), then do not tell him. Instead, use allusions (ma'areed), as they provide a way out of lying. If you resort to lying to him so that he does not divorce or abandon you, there is no harm in that, because lying in such a case becomes permissible. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, permitted lying for the sake of reconciliation, and for a man speaking to his wife and a woman to her husband. You should manage the situation carefully and ask him to study Tajweed with competent teachers, and seek help from lessons broadcast on Islamic channels or from books and recorded tapes. If he sees kindness, affection, and good treatment from you, he will not abandon you.
