The answer

The story mentioned in the question about the sun returning for Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) is a fabricated ( 거짓) story and is not authentic. Some scholars and historians narrated it, but scholars investigated the matter and ruled it to be fabricated, and that it is not permissible to narrate it or use it as evidence except to clarify its weakness. Scholars censured those who narrated it, such as Al-Hakim, Al-Tahawi, and Al-Tabarani. Mulla Ali Al-Qari mentioned that scholars said it is a fabricated hadith, and that the sun never returned for anyone except Joshua son of Nun. Al-Shawkani included it in "Al-Fawa'id Al-Majmu'ah fi Al-Ahadith Al-Mawdu'ah" (The Collected Benefits on Fabricated Hadiths). Ibn Al-Jawzi said it is fabricated, and that its chain of narration contains Fudail ibn Marzuq, who narrates fabricated reports, and Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Uqdah, who was accused of lying, and Dawud ibn Farahij, who is weak. Ibn Taymiyyah clarified that investigative hadith scholars know that this hadith is a false and fabricated one.
