Muslim narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of the Conquest [of Mecca], Abu Quhafah was brought [to the Prophet] and his head and beard were like thugham (a plant whose flowers and fruits are intensely white). So the Prophet commanded that they change that with something, and in a narration, "and avoid black." In a narration by Ahmad and others, which Al-Arna'oot and Al-Albani graded as authentic: "and keep it away from black."
