What is the ruling on buying one's shroud during their lifetime and keeping it?

The hadith (definition) of Sahl ibn Sa'd indicates the permissibility of preparing a shroud before death, and this is the view of the majority of scholars. The Shafi'is, however, hold that it is not recommended to prepare it because it is an expenditure before the need for it is certain, and a person will be questioned about it. Nevertheless, the preponderant view is the permissibility of preparing a shroud during one's lifetime without any dislike, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) approval of a man who did so.
