What is the ruling on a wife who corresponds with her relative with the intention of marriage, requests a divorce from her husband, then meets him and hosts him in her family's home without her husband's knowledge? Should the husband keep her if she repents, and what is her legal and divine punishment?

The wife is obligated to repent of her sin and to conceal herself even from her husband if he is unaware. If her husband knows, he should accept her repentance and forgive her, for every son of Adam errs, and the best of those who err are those who repent. As for the woman's punishment from Allah, it relates to the right of Allah Almighty, which is forgiven through sincere repentance. It also relates to the right of the husband, which Allah does not forgive except by the forgiveness of its owner, or by a righteous deed that expiates it, such as Hajj, or if Allah wills it by satisfying the owner of the right. She must fear Allah and preserve her husband's honor.
