What is the ruling on a father who refuses to marry off his children who are over the age of twenty-eight, prevents them from forming relationships and from traveling abroad to obtain a better nationality, and what is the way to treat his psychological illness or fulfill the children's wishes without harming him? What is the ruling on traveling to obtain citizenship without his permission, and what is the best way to deal with him, knowing that he does not respond to advice and threatens them?

You must be dutiful and kind to your father. We advise you to present him to a psychiatrist for treatment of his illness. If he prevents you from marrying a suitable person without a legitimate Islamic excuse (known as adhl), then the matter can be referred to an Islamic judge to arrange your marriage. It is not permissible for you to marry yourselves, as guardianship (wilayah) is a condition for the validity of the marriage contract (nikah). It is not permissible to travel abroad for the purpose of naturalization or obtaining rights, due to the precautions associated with that, especially since your rights are guaranteed in your own country. The best way to solve your father's problem is to be dutiful to him, pray for him, and present the issue to someone who can influence him.
