What is the ruling of Islamic law on a person remaining far from his children in a foreign land for a long period, reaching 15 years, during which he only sees his children for one year in total, due to the unavailability of the conditions for their sponsorship imposed by the country's law?

It is the right of children upon their father to be cared for and looked after, through financial support and sound Islamic upbringing. If your presence abroad does not lead to neglecting these rights, then there is no sin upon you. However, if it does lead to neglect, then you are sinful. As for the wife, she has the right that you do not absent yourself from her for more than six months, unless she consents. If she does not consent, then you are sinful.

We advise you to strive to unite your family, either by bringing them to you while adhering to the country's laws, or by returning to your homeland. For the father's presence among his children brings immeasurable happiness and helps protect the family in times of tribulation. Perhaps Allah will provide for you from sources you do not anticipate, as He Almighty said: "And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out And will provide for him from where he does not expect."
