What is the degree of authenticity and explanation of the Hadith: "I used to suffer great hardship and difficulty from madhy (pre-seminal fluid), and I used to bathe frequently. So I mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, whereupon he said: 'Wudu is sufficient for you from that.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what about what affects my garment from it?' He said: 'It is sufficient for you to take a handful of water and sprinkle it on your garment wherever you see that it has been affected by it'"?

The aforementioned hadith is authentic, and scholars have differed regarding the meaning of "nadh" (sprinkling/splashing) mentioned therein. Some said it means covering the area with water without washing (which is the view of Imam Ahmad), while others said it means washing (which is the view of the majority). Most jurists are of the opinion that it is obligatory to wash the madhy (pre-seminal fluid) and that merely sprinkling it without washing is not sufficient. Their evidence for this is the narration: "Wash." And they interpreted the narration of "nadh" as referring to washing. The more cautious approach is to wash whatever part of the garment has been affected by madhy.
