Many scholars have prohibited the continuation of marriage to an adulteress because Allah has permitted marriage to chaste women, and because of His saying, "The fornicator does not marry except a [female] fornicator or polytheist, and none marries her except a fornicator or a polytheist, and that has been forbidden to the believers." [24:3] And because it is not safe from her bearing a child out of adultery. A husband retaining his adulterous wife is not permissible and falls under the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, "There are three who will not enter Paradise nor will Allah look at them on the Day of Resurrection." Among them, he mentioned: "The Dayyuth (cuckold) who condones indecency among his family." And Allah Almighty said, "Corrupt women are for corrupt men, and corrupt men are for corrupt women." [24:26] The presence of an adulterous mother corrupts the daughters more than her absence. Therefore, one must search for a righteous wife, and safeguard the daughters by obligating them to wear the legal hijab and preventing them from mingling with non-mahram men, in accordance with His saying, "O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones." [66:6]
