Is the meaning of the word "fahishah" in the verse "And those who, when they commit a fahishah or wrong themselves..." referring to adultery?

Ibn Jarir and Ibn Hatim attributed to Jabir ibn Zayd, Al-Suddi, and Muqatil the view that "Al-Fahisha" in the verse refers to adultery. The apparent meaning of Ibn Kathir's and Al-Shawkani's interpretations in their respective tafsirs is that they prefer it to be general, encompassing every sin.
