What is Islam's ruling on a girl who works as a secretary for a manager, wears a hijab, recites the Quran, treats her manager as her brother despite no familial relation, and forms friendships with married and single individuals, discussing their very private matters with them? And how should she be dealt with within the work environment? And is it permissible to marry her?

A Muslim girl is rewarded for her hijab and for reciting the Qur’an, but this does not mean she is infallible. This girl erred by forming friendships with her male colleagues and her male manager at work, because they are non-mahram to her. It is not permissible for her to delve into their private matters, nor to be in seclusion with them, nor to speak to them in a soft, alluring manner.

She should be advised with wisdom and good counsel, and it should be clarified to her that it is not permissible for her to form any relationship (acquaintance or friendship) with any male colleague or anyone else unless he is her husband or a mahram to her. As for interacting with them, it should be limited to the needs of work only, while avoiding seclusion and deviating from the manner prescribed for interacting with all other non-mahram women.

As for marrying her, if she abandons these friendships, repents, and adheres to her religious obligations, then there is no harm in proposing to her and marrying her, while ensuring that she will not revert to her previous actions. She should always be guided and advised by gifting her some books and audio recordings, and by encouraging her to associate with righteous women.
