What is the ruling on cleaning eyebrows that have been plucked due to trichotillomania, given that they grow back again and in a bad way?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Cleaning or removing hair from the eyebrows by plucking (namṣ) is forbidden according to the majority of jurists, and a curse has been reported against women who pluck and women who have their eyebrows plucked. The Hanbalis are of the view that the prohibition is specific to plucking, and they permit trimming, shaving, and cutting. However, the Malikis and Shafi’is consider shaping to be the same as plucking. In cases where a person experiences illness or hardship, it is permissible to adopt the Hanbali opinion and clean the eyebrows by trimming stray hairs or removing them by any means other than plucking.
