How can one deal with a husband who is characterized by harshness, shouts at and beats the children, does not treat them equitably, preferring the youngest, in addition to interfering in his wife's private matters, refusing her naming of the children, and not treating her kindly, while his family and maternal aunts interfere in their marital life?

Raising children is a joint responsibility of both parents, especially the father. It should be done with wisdom and by instilling the principles of Islam and good morals. Beating and reprimanding should only be resorted to when all other methods have failed. Differential treatment negatively impacts child-rearing, which is why it was prohibited in the Hadith of Nu'man ibn Bashir. Among the aspects of raising children is choosing a good name for the boy or girl, and the father is most entitled to choose it, with consultation between the spouses. Marital relations with kindness are an established right for both spouses. Dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect are recommended for both parties. The wise wife shares her life with her husband, and the best of men are those who treat their families with tenderness and gentleness. Entertaining one's wife and children is important; the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to play with children and his family, and not kissing one's children is a sign of the removal of mercy.
