What is the ruling on a white marriage for the purpose of studying abroad?

It is impermissible to engage in a fraudulent, sham marriage to obtain residency and study permits, because the marriage contract is a solemn covenant and not a plaything. The Lawgiver has forbidden taking the signs of Allah as a mockery. Furthermore, studying in that country is not a necessity that would permit committing something unlawful. The general rule is that a Muslim's residence in disbelieving lands is prohibited due to the danger it poses to one's religion and morals.
