What is the authenticity of the story of Prophet David (peace be upon him) mentioned in the verse: "And has there come to you the news of the disputants, when they climbed over the wall of the private chamber," and is the story mentioned by Imam Al-Qurtubi in his commentary authentic?

What Al-Qurtubi and other exegetes mentioned regarding the story of David, peace be upon him, and his infatuation with the wife of the army commander is incorrect. It is from the Israʼiliyyat (Judeo-Christian traditions) that are unfitting for the station of prophets, and no hadith from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, has been authenticated concerning it. Ibn Kathir indicated that most of what is mentioned in this context is taken from the Israʼiliyyat, and none of it is authentic. It is appropriate to limit oneself to reciting the story and entrusting its knowledge to Allah. The Permanent Committee for Issuing Fatwas has affirmed the incorrectness of this story, pointing out that Sheikh Al-Shanqeeti, in Adwa’ Al-Bayan, explained that what is mentioned about David that is unfitting for his status is due to the Israʼiliyyat and should not be relied upon.
